Lotsa News People - Cousins

Now these photos are actually from a couple of weeks back, and I've been arguing with Duane and Sarah that they took all the little cousins to mini golf one day. Now they weren't arguing that. They could remember very clearly. They just argued that I already had the photos. I didn't of course. When have I ever been wrong. Only that time back in the mid 70's when I thought I'd made a mistake!

Chelsea and the Golden Key

During Chelsea's recent visit home, she mentioned in passing that she had been invited to be a member of the Golden Key. Mummy and Daddy thought this was some kind of Uni Club. Well it is. In a way. The other day I went to the school to talk about Duane who is nearing the end of his school life, to Maxine Hughes of Griffith University who comes over to talk to our kids about going to Uni. Maxine is very well known to many people here and is a tremendous support for our young people. Anyway, she congratulated us on Chelsea's being invited as a member to the Golden Key which is the most prestigious collegiate honour society in the world! So here's a bit on Chels...and well done Darling Girl.

Chelsea Evans is attending Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus where she is studying Sociology and Social Enterprise and she was recently invited to become a member of the prestigious Golden Key International Honour Society. Golden Key is the world's premier collegiate honour society and membership is by invitation only, to the top 15% of college or university 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students in all fields of study, based solely on the criteria of their academic achievements. Chelsea attended the presentation evening with her good friend and fellow student Brent Adams. On completion of her studies Chelsea hopes to return to Norfolk and work with the fascinating history of the Pitcairn/Norfolk people.

A photo of Chels and Brent, off to the Golden Key presentation.

and here's a photo of the Certificate to hang in some space on our walls ~ bearing in mind that Gaye, Dids, Chels and Duane are all artists and each space is crammed

On sale at Soul Gallery

Soul Gallery has been up and running now for four months and we've been steadily increasing stock. Lou has brought in some amazing canvas's of her photography and in the last order she also placed some for YoYo's work.

YoYo is Nat Grube's husband and hails from Rapanui (Easter Island). His paintings are incredible and the reproductions on canvas should be seen to be believed.

He's got other pieces but you know what ~ if you want to see them, come and visit!
Nat paints also and has some beautiful natural jewellery made from sea washed glass and shells.

Yvon makes the most exquisite dichroic glass pendants, earrings and rings.

Cristina Rose paints incredible underwater scenes and marine creatures floating in light, and is also well known for her photography. Mary Christian Bailey creates handmade bags and purses and also very popular felted apples. I haven't any photos of Mary's incredible work but I'll find some and upload next week

Pauline Reynolds Barff has handmade tapa cloth with prints of her Tahitian husband's designs.

Suzanne Evans has a range of goodies which include lino cuts and Norf'k laengwij.

Maeve Hitch and Karlene Christian do demonstrations of island weaving and offer oil paintings; bookmarks; woven hatbands; shell jewellery; books and cards.

Now we have a frangipani wall because Lou's been playing. She's taken a little bit from each of us who have done frangipani's that will fit onto the wall and made her own unique display. Go girl!

These are Lou's photographs printed onto gallery stretched canvas

I haven't mentioned Lou yet. She's into photography and light and reflections. She's also into transposing them onto canvas prints which make amazing gifts for those both on and off island.
I think that's enough. Come in and have a look. It's looking great.

Oh. and last but not least, my day on today. I've been very very busy. Cups, little books in Norfolk, cards, soaps, and a table to put them on. Here's a beautiful shot of me, doing busy things.

Call in and visit me next Saturday.

Roses from Sarah

I've had this photo sitting here for a while now and would like to share it with you. Sarah (Saz) brought them down for me, or maybe sent them down via Duane, but as you can see they are absolutely beautiful. Huge thanks Saz. Luv em.

Multi media to the world

Chelsea, the darling child, has evidently posted this blog onto facebook. Well that's just fine by me and if people want to have a look, they're more than welcome, but for those who have made comments and obviously don't like it, could I make a suggestion ~ don't look!

Now as we all know, Millie is avidly interested in everying! She very kindly sent these photos through this morning of her daughter Katie's block and has also allowed them to be uploaded. I attach her email...

This photo is Lake Walden. Millie asked if I wanted a photo of her swimming in it, but I graciously declined. There are no words.......

Check this out! Doesn't it look fantastic. I want an invite to a summer soiree! Tea lights and little cakes.

This is the Roseapple tree that Millie is referring to. Lord only knows what she means. If anyone has stories, please let me or Millie know.

It's raining, it's pouring, I wish I was snoring...

The rain bucketed down with gay abandon, soaking through all layers and drumming on the roof. Kingston looked magnificent as I drove to work but my camera was sitting high and dry on my desk, so this afternoon I decided to do a little camera scouting for the blog. Hetieh.

This above and the next three photos were taken from the road leading to Munna's, looking up the valley towards the dam. Already much of the water has drained away since this morning, but you can still get a pretty good idea. I have to say that although I just loved, sloshing around in the mud and slush, my new boots didn't like it that much.

These are of the creek running into Emily Bay. Unfortunately it was raining again, and the shots not only look blurred, but you can't really see the power behind the water as it gushed down the channels.

Love this one. Again on the bridge leading to Munna's and looking toward Government House. As you can see the pinetree has it's little feeties in the water. Don't think it will like that very much.

This was taken from the entrance to the Legislative Assembly. It doesn't really show the extent of the water, but to do that I would have to go inside, get the key, walk out into the rain, unlock the main building, walk upstairs, take photo....you get the drift. I took it from the entrance! Again. Not blurry. It's raining.

This is the creek from the Flagstaff turn of, running towards Kingston. I am really kicking myself that I didn't have my camera this morning.

Looking across the common towards Emily Bay from up on the driveway.

The convict bridge down on the road at the Flagstaff turnoff. The water, although lessened, is still flying through. The ducks and geese are having a fantastic time.

Looking towards Wentworth's Cottage at the Lions Club. Again it doesn't really clearly show the extent of the water, but it's still a fine shot.

Now these were taken on Bounty Street or Bligh Street or whatever they call it, the one leading to Slaughter. This morning the road was totally underwater. Shall I whinge again that I didn't have my camera?

Anyway people, it gives you some idea of the water that's been blessing us of late. Oh have to tell you a tale about Dad. I have picked him up for lunch and we were around Burnt Pine outside the Orb when a man and two ladies walked past. One of the women was saying "..Have you seen Kingston? I've never seen rain like this on Norfolk..". Dad, sitting in the car said, "Wael Brad, den yu naewa bin ya lornga naf!"
Excellent!
